Spring is a great time to start that new remodel project. You know the safety basics. But did you know that if used incorrectly, power tools can cause carpal tunnel syndrome. CTS is a condition in which the tendons passing through the carpal tunnel-a narrow channel of ligament that leads from the wrist to the hand-become thickened and inflamed. This leads to pressure on a nerve, causing pain, numbness and weakness in the hand.
To avoid CTS: Limit the time you use heavy-duty, vibrational tools, especially drills and jackhammers. Take breaks often, and stretch out to allow circulation in the wrists to recover. Maintain good posture of the neck and shoulders.
